Now, to install GIMP 2.7.3, here is what you have to do:

Open the terminal.
Add the PPA with the command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:matthaeus123/mrw-gimp-svn

Update software list with:
sudo apt-get update

Finally install with the command
sudo apt-get install gimp

After installation you will get the multi-window interface by default. You can switch to the single window interface with Windows -> Single-window mode.
